Process Technician - Formulation / Coating

Job Description:
- Responsible for performing technical tests and R&D experiments, and Advanced Development.
- Performs set-up of equipment to process test runs and prepares records, charts, and graphs of results to Engineers and Scientists to identify improvement opportunities or test new products.
- Provide technical assistance to process development and engineering personnel.
- Works on assignments requiring rational judgment and considerable initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions. An added plus would be a candidate that can make key observations and provide meaningful input to experimental design.
- Determine methods and procedures on new assignments. As a skilled specialist, completes tasks in creative and effective ways.
- Ability to work well in a team environment is essential for success.
- Additionally, the ability to work independently on challenging projects and tasks that are designed by Research Scientists and Engineers is important.
Hands-on laboratory experience in formulation, process development, and process engineering are critical.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare coating formulations to deposit carbon nanotube and polymer films onto flexible and rigid substrates
- Capture and prepare data from experiments. Knowledge of data graphing etc.
- Operation of coating equipment and other metrology tools
- Maintain key equipment in cleanroom environment
Requirements:
- 6+ years industry experience in R/D or product development in a commercial environment
- Familiarity with chemistry principles and methods
- Experience with dispersion / formulation process development, and standard production and characterization equipment is a plus
- Experience with surfactants and coating aids is a plus
- Experience carrying out small technical projects
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience in Product commercialization is a differentiator
- Lifting of equipment 25 – 35 lbs safely
- Some travel will be necessary, but not common
- Willing to learn about new, leading edge technology

Senior Process Engineer
Unidym, Menlo Park CA

Job Responsibilities:
- Support set-up of a lab facility to perform research, development, and commercialization of carbon nanomaterials and related materials
- Fabricate and characterize thin films (organic) for transparent conductors
- Design/execute experiments in dispersion & film deposition
- Apply structured experimental designs to achieve improvements in films with device quality as the key objective
- Implement 5S lean methodologies to grow lab capabilities
- Design and execute experiments in polymer based encapsulation of carbon nanotube thin films including doping of semiconducting carbon nanotubes based on discussions with senior technologists
- Learn device quality metrics for touch screen & LCD based applications
- Handle sample development for Joint Development interactions, sampling for potential partners
- Identify Intellectual Property opportunities, work w/ IP team to file appropriate applications
- Use Gated Commercialization Process in our products commercialization
Requirements:
- Master's degree in technical field with strong background in process development
- 2+ years of experience in process development in a start-up environment
- Familiarity with common metrology equipment for semiconductors and roll-to-roll coatings
- Experience working with outside vendors on equipment set-up
- Experience coordinating outsourced manufacturers
- Strong familiarity with electronic materials processing fundamentals
