Art Swift
President & CEO

Mr. Swift brings over 20 years of senior management experience in the semiconductor industry to Unidym. Previously, Mr. Swift was President and CEO of Transmeta Corporation, an innovative semiconductor company in the Silicon Valley. Prior to his promotion to CEO, he was Senior Vice President of Marketing. At Transmeta, Mr. Swift was instrumental in transforming the company's strategy from selling semiconductor chips to developing and licensing intellectual property. Prior to Transmeta, Mr. Swift held senior leadership roles ranging from Office of the President and Chief Operating Officer at an embedded software startup, Lynuxworks, to Vice President and General Manager at a variety of large divisions of the established chip-maker Cirrus Logic. Art has also held senior marketing and engineering positions with Summit Microelectronics, Sun Microsystems, Digital Equipment, and Fairchild Semiconductor. Mr. Swift holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University.


Ralph J. Harms
Chief Financial Officer

Ralph brings to Unidym a wealth of financial management experience, in both private and public technology companies. Ralph has experience in building the infrastructure necessary to successfully deal with the intricacies of technology manufacturing and licensing businesses. He comes to Unidym from Transmeta Corporation, an innovative semiconductor company in the Silicon Valley, where he served as CFO. Prior to Transmeta, Ralph was CFO with a number of high growth technology companies in semiconductors, data networking and telecommunications, software and internet infrastructure. Ralph has led three successful Nasdaq IPOs. He has led seven mergers and acquisition activities and raised public and private financing totaling approximately $1.7 billion during his career. Ralph has also held senior financial management positions at Intel, Rockwell International and Xerox. Ralph earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.


Professor George Grüner
Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) and Founder

Dr. Grüner is a Distinguished Professor of Physics at the University of California Los Angeles. He is the founder of Unidym, pioneering research into CNT-based films and transistors. He has served as a consultant to and advisory board member for numerous companies and government agencies, including IBM, Exxon and Superconductor Technologies, Inc. From 2001 to 2004, Dr. Grüner was the Chief Technical Officer and Chief Scientist of Nanomix Inc., a role for which he received the World Economic Forum's Technology Pioneer Award. Dr. Grüner has published over 400 papers and 2 books and is the inventor of over 30 patents and patent applications in the field of nanotechnology. He is one of the 200 most "Highly Cited Scientists" in the field of physics worldwide. Dr. Grüner's recognitions include the Guggenheim and Alexander von Humboldt awards. He received his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Budapest, Hungary. In 1980 he was appointed Professor of Physics at UCLA. He has directed a research group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.


Dr. Paul Drzaic
Chief Technology Officer.

Dr. Paul Drzaic is widely recognized in the fields of flat panel displays, printed and flexible electronics, and several areas of materials science. Paul comes to Unidym from Alien Technology Corporation, where he served as Vice President for Advanced Development. At Alien, he was responsible for management of over $30M of projects in the development of several areas of technology in both radio frequency identification (RFID) and flexible electronics, as well as managing the intellectual property portfolio for the company. Prior to Alien, Paul served as the first Director of Technology at E Ink Corporation, leading a group of scientists and engineers in the development of that company's first electronic paper prototypes. Paul also has a strong reputation in the field of liquid crystal displays due to his work at Taliq Corporation. Paul both a Fellow of and President of the Society for Information Display, the leading international society supporting the development of flat panel displays, and has held several leadership positions within the Materials Research Society, one of the leading organizations in nanotechnology research, including his current position as Chair of the Editorial Board of the MRS Bulletin. Paul has won several national awards, is the author of over 50 patents, 20 journal publications, and is author of a book on liquid crystal displays. Paul has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame, and a PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University.


Robert Bismuth
Vice President of Business Development

Robert has a track record of innovative business success in both building strategic relationships and bringing to market new applications for a wide range of technologies. Most recently, Robert held the position of Vice President of Strategic Alliances at Transmeta Corporation, an innovative semiconductor company in the Silicon Valley. Mr. Bismuth has held numerous senior executive positions, twice serving as CEO of software companies. Mr. Bismuth previously spent 15 years at Digital Equipment Corporation, and became Digital's first Vice President of Corporate Strategic Alliances. Mr. Bismuth holds a B.Sc. in Pure Mathematics from the University of Wales and a M.Sc. from McMaster University, Canada. He is also a graduate of the Stanford Executive Business School Program for Growing Companies.


Dr. Glen Irvin
Vice President of Products - Transparent Electrodes

Dr. Irvin comes to Unidym from Eastman Kodak where he focused on nanotechnology solutions for Kodak's imaging products including process/product team leader that commercialized polymeric nanocomposites for AM-OLED displays in the Sanyo-Kodak Display product line. Glen also served as Project Leader for Coatable Conductors in the Display Science and Technology Center creating materials systems for Printed & Flexible Electronic Devices & developing business opportunities leveraging these materials and Kodak's coating capabilities. Glen led and participated in Six Sigma & Lean Manufacturing activities resulting in improved product and process improvements, many of which were nanomaterials manufacturing processes. Glen earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University. A proven innovator, Glen currently has 23 US patents and has written a number of journal articles and Kodak Technical Reports related to nanomaterials synthesis, processing, and device integration with over 50 US patent applications submitted.


Dr. Ken McElrath
VP Product Development - Materials

Dr. McElrath brings over 30 years of experience in science, engineering and chemical technology including 22 years with Exxon Corporation and ExxonMobil Chemical. At CNI, Ken was responsible for innovative carbon nanotube grade development which resulted in several product wins. He has been active in various standards activities as well as safety, health and environmental aspects of carbon nanotubes. Ken holds 17 U.S. patents. He was a founding member of the Nanotechnology Steering Panel which was chartered by the Office of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) and the American National Standards Institute. Ken McElrath received his B.S. degree with honors in Chemical Engineering from Tulane University in 1974. He received a Masters degree from Tulane in 1975 and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University in 1980.


John Miller
Vice President Intellectual Property

Mr. Miller also serves as Vice President of Business Development at Arrowhead Research, where his duties include licensing intellectual property held by Arrowhead and its subsidiaries. John founded Nanopolaris, which later merged with Unidym. He has written a number of published articles on legal and policy issues in nanotechnology, and is a Managing Editor of Nanotechnology Law & Business, a peer-reviewed, quarterly journal. He is also a co-author of The Handbook of Nanotechnology Business, Policy, and Intellectual Property Law (John Wiley, 2004). Mr. Miller is a member of the California bar and federal courts in the Northern District of California. He graduated Order of the Coif from Stanford Law School.


Takashi Murayama
Vice President Asia Pacific

Mr. Takashi Murayama comes to Unidym from MoSys Inc., a memory IP company in Silicon Valley, where he was Vice President of the Japan operation. From August 2002 to 2005, he served as a Vice President of Transmeta and as President of Transmeta KK. From September 2001 to August 2002, Mr. Murayama was employed by and served as President of Mindspeed KK, a subsidiary of Conexant, a provider of semiconductor solutions. From May 1999 to August 2001, Mr. Murayama was employed by Conexant, where he served as Executive Sales Director. From July 1978 to April 1999 Mr. Murayama was employed by Intel, a microprocessor manufacturer, where he held a variety of positions, most recently as Regional Sales Manager. Mr. Murayama holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Kagoshima University in Japan .


Sean Olson
VP Strategy & Operations

Mr. Olson has both technical and business experience in the semiconductor industries and is a veteran of both early and late stage ventures. Previously, Mr. Olson led Aonex Technologies, a start-up company developing novel materials for the blue LED industry. Prior to Aonex, he co-founded a local search company that was sold to Interactive Corporation. Mr. Olson also served in engineering and management positions at Silicon Valley Group Lithography (acquired by ASML), a semiconductor capital equipment provider, and was a strategy consultant for The Boston Consulting Group. He received engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from The Harvard Business School.


Dave Robinson
VP Manufacturing-Materials

Mr. Robinson has over 20 years of senior management experience in petroleum refining, petrochemical manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing including President of Howell Hydrocarbons and Chemicals, Inc. Prior to joining Unidym he served as Vice President Engineering and Production for Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc. Mr. Robinson holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University.


Dr. Ken Smith
Vice President Technology

Dr. Smith joined the Physics and Astronomy faculty at Rice University in 1984 where his research included nanoscale science and technology. In 1986 he became Executive Director of the Rice Quantum Institute (RQI). The Quantum Institute which spawned a new Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology (CNST). Dr. Smith continued to administer both RQI and CNST. After he, Rick Smalley, Bob Gower and Dan Colbert founded CNI in 2000, he joined that company to pursue commercial development of carbon nanotubes. He has published over 100 scientific articles in journals, predominantly in physics, physical chemistry and nanotechnology and approximately 45 issued or allowed patents. He received his Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Rice University in 1970, 1973, and 1976, respectively, and was a colleague of Rick Smalley's for several years, involved in the research and development of carbon nanotechnology.
